The problem I have with using windows defender alone is that it is not made by a company who specialize in endpoint security hence it's pretty low score on a lot of real life review, Microsoft is good at securing the system overall but they will not go bankrupt because a few user have problem, they mostly target malware that are widespread. Avast's process was using all 32GB of my memory. and the occasional memory leak where avast will use up all of your ram. Anyways If I go back to an AV program, its going to be bitdefender because its performance is so light on the system and independent tests show it to be one of, if not the best at detection. We'll have to wait for the independent virus tests.

HOWEVER with all of that said, since I began running windows 10 as an insider I haven't used bitdefender either. I own an avast premiere license that i'm not using because of this issue. Bitdefender is also a far superior AV compared to Avast although I miss the sandbox feature of avast. Use bitdefender and at idle your cpu will be the same as if you were just using windows defender. This has been an ongoing issue with avast for sometime (google avast wmi for proof). Avast has some performance issues that spike the wmiprvse.exe process around 5% to 10% every 3 or 4 seconds.
